GULMARG

Gulmarg is a town nestled in the Pir Panjal range of the Western Himalayas at an altitude of 8,690 feet above sea level. Literally translated as ‘Meadow of Flowers’ it is encased by glimmering snow peaked alps, verdant green pastures, colorful meadows, deep valleys and pine covered slopes.

A picturesque beauty, it is known for its ski resort which was established in 1927, the Gulmarg Gondola – Asia’s second longest cable car ride and the highest golf course in the world at an elevated altitude of 2,650 meters. Gulmarg is an absolute delight for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Called the ‘heartland of winter sports’, it offers a plethora of activities such as skiing, snowboarding, horse riding, heli-skiing, snow scooter, tobogganing, etc. and sightseeing options. The best season to visit Gulmarg is from October to June as it is the perfect destination especially during winters when the snow capped landscape transforms into the premier destination for winter sports in India.

PAHALGAM

Located 95 km from Srinagar at a height of 7200 ft, Pahalgam, known as the ‘Valley of Shepherds’, is a famous hill station in Jammu and Kashmir where many films have been shot. Standing at the confluence of Lidder river and the Sheshnag lake, Pahalgam is surrounded by thickly wooded pine forests, breathtaking vistas of meadows and the snow-clad Himalayan mountains.

Serving as the base camp during the Amarnath Yatra, the Pahalgam-Chandanwati-Amarnath route is preferred by tourists trying to reach the mountain cave of Lord Shiva. The town also holds an amazing two-day long Snow Festival that showcases winter sports like skiing, snow-sledging and many more which tourists can participate in. Other activities that tourists can indulge in are golf, trekking and angling.

Apart from being a pilgrimage site, Pahalgam is also a treat for adventure junkies and is the starting point for several treks. However, the highlight of the activities available for tourists is the white water rafting facility winding down the Lidder River through the forests and down the rapids.

SONMARG

Sonmarg, which means "Meadow of Gold", is a picturesque hill station in the Kashmir Valley located in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Situated at an altitude of 2800 meters and adorned with a majestic glacier, meadow, dense forests, and snow-capped mountains makes Sonmarg an ideal holiday destination in Kashmir.
For nature lovers, Sonmarg offers the chance to unwind amidst its scenic vistas; adventure buffs who can indulge in trekking and camping activities for adrenaline rush; and honeymoon couples can spend time cozying up amidst its beauty.

The flower-laden (in summers) valley of Sonmarg, nestled amongst the majestic Himalayan range has many tourist attractions to offer and Thajiwas Glacier is the major one. It is an easy day hike recommended to even family vacationers.
The adventure lovers in Sonmarg have great opportunities to head out for scenic treks. Amongst the most popular treks starting from Sonmarg are Gangabal Lake Trek and Krishansar and Vishansar twin lakes which in fact also make for important brown trout fishing destinations in Kashmir.

The Baltal Valley, located 15km away, is one of the best tourist destinations near Sonmarg. It offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountains. This valley serves as a camping area for pilgrims heading towards the sacred Hindu pilgrimage of Amarnath Cave. The nature lovers will also love to see the beautiful vistas of the Nilagrad River which boasts a red hue in its water and is known to have medicinal properties.
